This is the first box that Cavin made. It was carved in yellow cedar. He was influenced by his wife, Lorraine. Originally he was going to carve a bas relief octopus on the top but she suggested it would be more dramatic to have the octopus incorporate the entire box. The octopus body was carved separately and was then glued and screwed onto the lid. With the lid on the box he carved the arms of the octopus along the sides. This piece was entered in a gallery show and won the Peoples Choice Award. It is available for purchase.
